The chair with its own name. This is the Medallion chair, designed in 1947 by the renowned haute couture designer Dior himself. It is often said that necessity is the mother of invention, and Christian thought so too, as he believed there was not enough stylish furniture available. This led him to create the Medallion chair.

Dior loved this type of chairs, with oval backs used by Louis XVI, designed in the late 18th century for Marie Antoinette's apartments, featuring a wide base with flounces resembling short skirts and a narrow oval back suggesting a corseted bodice. This design inspired the designer to create his own Medallion.
“Sober, simple and above all, classic and Parisian”
The chair, designed in a neoclassical style, was regarded as minimalist in contrast to the extravagances of the Rococo period. However, Dior further streamlined it to achieve a more contemporary look, transforming it into the perfect seat for guests attending his fashion shows.
This time, the design has been reinterpreted for the Salon del Mobile 2022. Dior Maison has collaborated for the first time with Philippe Starck and has invited him to reinterpret an iconic symbol.
The globally renowned creator, famous for his visionary and poetic works, combines the essence of the French house with a savoir-faire that surpasses the boundaries of excellence.
